The deceased was identified as Sanjeev Raj, a native of Udumalaipet, who was working in Guindy. Police arrested Senthil Raj, 42, a dentist, who was working as a senior manager in a private firm in Ekkatuthangal.
Victim’s relationship with the suspect’s divorced wife is said to be reason behind the murder.
Police said Senthil was divorced from his wife but was not very comfortable with Sanjeev’s friendship with her. Sanjeev was working in the firm where Senthil’s wife was working.
On Saturday night, more than 15 friends, including Sanjeev and Senthil and a few women, were partying in the hotel rooms in Mahabalipuram when the murder happened. “They had taken 5 rooms and in one room they were consuming alcohol when Senthil allegedly questioned Sanjeev’s relationship with former’s wife. This led to a quarrel between them when Senthil took out a knife and stabbed Sanjeev. Other friends immediately took Sanjeev to hospital where he was declared brought dead on arrival,” the police said.
The female members of the partying group vacated the hotel soon after the murder.
Immediately after the incident, Senthil reportedly escaped from the room and boarded a bus to Chennai. The police, when came to know about it, nabbed Senthil from the bus in Kovalam. Senthil was later arrested by the police for murder.
