Bus gets stuck on subway, halts traffic
An omni bus carrying 55 passengers got stuck in Duraisamy Subway at Mambalam during the peak traffic hour bringing the vehicular movement to a halt for over an hour on Thursday.

The incident took place around 4.30 pm when the bus of a private travels was returning to Kovilpatti with 55 passengers, including women and children, who had come to attend a family function at Mambalam. Since the driver Senthikukar did not know the direction, he drove the vehicle down the subway and hit the overhead pathway.
“Though private buses are not allowed on the stretch, this bus somehow entered the subway by mistake. Since the bus had hydraulic system, it was taller than the regular bus and got stuck in the subway. Since most portion of the bus went underneath, it became difficult reverse the vehicle. On information, we rushed to spot and deflated the tyres after which the bus was moved away from the spot with the help of the public,” said a traffic police official.
While none were injured in the accident, a huge crowd gathered around the subway to take pictures and capture the videos. The driver was booked and fined for entering the ‘No Entry’ zone, obstructing traffic and reckless driving. Later, the bus was diverted via Ashok Nagar.
