Stolen goods worth Rs 7 crore retrieved in Kanchi, Tiruvallur

In the year 2017, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur police together had retrieved stolen articles worth over Rs 7 crore and detained over 125 accused under the Goondas Act.

While the Kancheepuram police cracked 494 of 657 property offence cases and seized articles mainly gold worth Rs 5,53,45,860, the Tiruvallur police had booked 221 cases and retrieved over 300 sovereigns worth Rs 1,44,94,257.

Kancheepuram police helped the speedy trial of 12 murder accused and got them life term while 127 were detained under the Goondas Act together in two districts.

In order to prevent smuggling of liquor from Puducherry, 4,023 cases were booked and 4,195 offenders were arrested by police in places bordering Kancheepuram. As many as 74 vehicles seized for liquor smuggling was auctioned for Rs 32.32 lakh and deposited in treasury. In Tiruvallur districts, 11 check posts were erected to control smuggling of illicit liquor from Andhra Pradesh.

Kancheepuram police said that that the number of accidents reported in the district in 2017 was at 3,179, which remained lesser than 2016. The number of casualties was 980, compared to 1,057 in 2016.

About 20,000 cases of traffic violations were booked in two districts and driving licences of 9,030 offenders were recommended for cancellation.

Kancheepuram Superintendent Santhosh Hadimani and Tiruvallur Superintendent Sibi Chakravathy said that the crime rate was less in their respective districts in 2017 when compared to previous years.
