4 college students held with LSD stamps

As many as four students of different colleges in Chennai and outskirts were arrested by the sleuths from the Narcotics Intelligence Bureau on Friday for possession of LSD stamps, a narcotics drug popular in party circuits in the city. As many as 16 such stamps, each valued around Rs 10,000 were seized from the suspect, police said.

NIB DSP Purushothaman said that his team arrested Chandrasekhar, of Nungambakkam, studying a hotel management course and three engineering college students named Aashish, Akshay kumar and Dinesh from separate colleges. 

While police seized 6 stamps from Chandrasekhar, 10 stamps were seized from other three. It was Chandrasekhar who brought it from Goa, where he went to celebrate the New Year and was trying to push the LSD (Lysergic acid diethylamide) stamps, also knowns as acid, through his newly formed supply chain of students from other colleges, the police noted. 

“He had purchased 1 stamp for Rs 5,000 in Goa and was trying to sell the same for Rs 10,000 per stamp.” Police noted adding that the LSD stamp gives user an hallucination high which may remain for hours.

Narcotics cops have been warning of increased use of drugs in Chennai as city had witnessed 100% increase in seizure of cocaine in 2017 compared to 2016. “LSD stamps, are easy to courier as books from abroad, because stamps can be hidden inside such books without getting noticed. It is difficult to browse through all book parcels arriving from abroad,” an official had observed
