Filed by P Ilangovan of Ganapathy, the petitioner claimed that the actor has committed an offence under IPC sections 500 (defamation) and 501 (printing or engraving matter known to be defamatory).
Actor Kamal, who has been vocal on the prevailing political turmoil in Tamil Nadu following the demise of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, wrote an article in a Tamil magazine about the role of money in RK Nagar by poll.
He dubbed cash for votes in RK Nagar by poll as begging from a thief. In the article, ‘a storm is brewing in me’, Kamal said the independent candidate, in an apparent reference to TTV Dinakaran, had won by giving Rs 20 notes as tokens for Rs 20,000.
The petitioner alleged that the actor has defamed a legislator who had also won by a huge majority by winning over the hearts of the voters.
Kamal had also insulted the people, who had voted TTV to power, by calling them as beggars. Ilangovan prayed the court to summon the actor and punish him for making scandulous allegations. Judicial Magistrate Raj Kumar posted the case for hearing to January 12.

The outfit, which announced its protest before the actor’s residence, rescheduled its plan and staged a protest at Valluvar Kottam. Kamal who was in the US for working on his Viswaroopam -2 movie, returned on Friday morning. .
