According to the weathermen, low pressure formed over South-West Bay of Bengal off Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu coast on Tuesday is now near the Gulf of Mannar. It is, however, likely to weaken gradually. Meanwhile, temperature, which was below normal, increased by two degrees Celsius due to the low pressure.
An RMC official said that there was a high possibility for the delta region to receive heavy rain on Wednesday night.
“But, the sky will remain overcast in Chennai and suburbs with some parts receiving mild rain.”
“The showers will stop after the low-pressure weakens which is likely to happen in a couple of days,” the official added. A city-based weather blogger said, “The delta districts recorded heavy overnight rains with Karaikal recording the first spell of rain in 2018, accumulating 101 mm up to 5.30 am on Wednesday.
While many parts of the state recorded light showers because of the low-pressure, a few places recorded moderate to heavy rains possibly under the influence of converging low level winds.”
