In an official statement, the CBSE said, “Due to administrative reasons, the examination date for the subject physical education (subject code 048) for Class 12 main exam 2018 stands revised.

All other examination dates for both Classes 10 and 12 remain the same.” Soon after the date sheet for the Class 12 and Class 10 was released, several parents and teachers raised objections.

Some pointed out that date sheet was flawed as the JEE Exam is scheduled to happen on April 8 and the Physical Exam was earlier scheduled on April 9. Both these exams are conducted by the same body. However, there are many who are still unhappy with CBSE’s decision as the humanities students will still have to go through enormous stress.   Three papers – Psychology, Political Science and Legal Studies – are scheduled on April 5, 6 and 7 respectively.

“We were hoping that the CBSE will consider rescheduling the dates, but nothing has been done about it. There are some of us who have to travel for at least an hour to the examination centre. We will miss half a day on the day of the examination and there will be no time left for revision,” said Prachi S, a humanities student.

There is also a change.org petition regarding the same. However, there are not many CBSE schools in the city that offer humanities elective. Chettinad Vidyashram is one of them. Amudha Lakshmi S, the principal said, “We are preparing the students accordingly to handle writing back-to-back exams.”
