In her petition, she has stated that traffic sub-inspector Thamairaselvan and constables—Manikandan, Thamizhselvan and Chandrasekar, abused him verbally besides assaulting him with an iron rod. Policemen on duty misused their power and even told him to die since he doesn’t have a purpose to live. Meanwhile, police on Thursday booked Manikandan on the charges of attempted suicide.

“He has been booked under Section 309 of the IPC and given bail. Further inquiry is on and based on the trial in the court, the policemen concerned will be booked if the charges against them were proved,” said inspector Taramani inspector Bhaskar. Meanwhile, KMC hospital sources said that Manikandan, who suffered 59 per cent burns, remained critical on Thursday and continued to be in the intensive care unit.
