Gold worth Rs 1.16 crore seized at city airport
Customs officials at the city airport seized gold bars weighing 3.8 kg, worth over Rs 1.16 crore, from a passenger who arrived from Jeddah in c on Monday.

The officials intercepted Rafi Syed (43) at the exit point of the arrival hall based on a tip-off. When they examined his checkedin bag, the gold bars were found concealed in two plastic pouches containing dates. As many as 37 gold bars, each weighing 100 gm, and two bars weighing 50 gm were found.
Each bar was packed in a transparent plastic pouch. The passenger has been arrested under the provisions of Customs Act and the officials are interrogating him.
According to Customs officials, surveillance at strategic points inside the city airport has been intensified after receiving intelligence inputs indicating that smugglers were adopting innovative methods to smuggle gold, said official sources.
