Parents stage protest at Chepauk

Gathering under the banner School Parents Mission Education Federation, around 50 parents staged a protest at Chepauk on Saturday against the exorbitant fees charged by the schools, and demanding quality education for their wards.

“We are against the over-commercialisation of schools. Despite there being a cap on the fees, they ask money for absurd reasons like special classes and what not,” said Kishan Kumar, a member of the federation. The protesters alleged that only those parents who are favourable to the managements are included in the Parents Teachers Association. 

They also demanded installation of CCTV cameras in schools to ensure the safety of the students, implementation of RTE in all schools, and that parents should be included in the School Management Committees so that they can have a say on the schools’ decisions.
