The selected students were adjudged winners at ‘Wings to Fly’, a competition which pitted students from Corporation-run schools against each other. The finals, in which 32 students who made it to the last round participated, was concluded on Friday.
The elocution and science competition were conducted by the Rotary Club of Madras East (RCME), in association with the Greater Chennai Corporation.
The finalists had to prepare science experiments as working models and display them at independent stalls at Amma Arangam in Anna Nagar. Experts from various institutions such as Indian Institute of Technology – Madras (IIT-M), corporate powerhouses, academicians and other members of Rotary Club were invited to judge the models.
Eight students were chosen as winners in a competition, which saw a massive participation of 3,000 students during the initial rounds. The winners will be taken on an educational tour to National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
BS Purshotham, President, RCME, which is sponsoring the educational tour, said, “The purpose of this project is to attract the attention of children and for them to understand that there is a larger and bigger world available out there, full of opportunities.”
