S Premkumar, a resident of Kangeyanallur near Vellore and a staff of a cash loading agency, CISCO, was arrested when he tried to ‘deposit’ Rs 7 lakh in the SBI ATM, which he had stolen from SBI ATM. He was nabbed by the public who grew suspicious of his activities as he covered his face and entered the ATM.
Inquiries revealed that Premkumar was working on a contract basis with CISCO for the last four years.
As he was a regular cash loader, he knew the password and also had the ATM key. Turning this to his advantage, he had given the password and the key to this relative V Sarath Kumar to rob the money from SBI ATM on Tiruvalam road. He sought the help of his relative to avoid being captured in the CCTV.
However, when he came to know that the ATM was to be audited the next day, he took an equal amount from the SBI ATM on Vallimalai road and filled up the machine on Tiruvalam road to escape from getting caught.
After the audit, he along with Sarath Kumar, tried to retrieve the cash from Tiruvalam Road ATM and put it back at the Vallimalai Road ATM. But, when they were replacing the cash, they were caught red-handed by the public.
Police rushed to the spot and recovered the cash of Rs 7 lakh. Both have been remanded in custody. Further investigations are on.
SBI regional manager Parthasarathy when contacted said, “The SBI is not concerned as it is totally a CISCO matter. The ATM in question is an outsourced ATM which belongs to CISCO. They just use the SBI logo. Our funds are fully intact.” Repeated attempts to get CISCIO officials’ version on the issue proved futile.
