HIV positive woman commits suicide in hospital

A 45-year-old HIV positive woman, who was undergoing treatment at Government Hospital of Thoracic Medicine in Tambaram Sanatorium, committed suicide on Sunday.

The deceased Muthulakshmi hailed from Ariyalur. Her husband, Lazar (50) is a daily wage worker at Ariyalur. She was referred to Sanatorium GH from a hospital in Ariyalur and was complaining of unbearable pain for the past few days. On Sunday night, she was found hanging in the hospital restroom. 

21-year-old ends life: A 21-year-old woman committed suicide as she could neither continue her studies due to lack of funds,  nor find a job, in Maraimalai Nagar on Sunday. The deceased, who was identified as Sindumani of Jayankondam, had completed Class 12 last year, while her mother Barathi is a daily wage worker. While she wanted to pursue higher studies, she was forced to look for a job due to poor financial condition. Since she failed to find a job, she ended her life, said police. 

Businessman commits suicide: A 60-year-old businessman committed suicide at his house in Tiruvottriyur when his family members were away at their native to attend a wedding. The deceased, S Abdul Mohammed, who ran a textile showroom in the local market, had also accompanied his family. But he came back on Friday claiming to have some work in the city. When the family returned on Sunday, the door was locked from inside. As a foul smell emanated from the house, they broke open the door and were shocked to see Abdul hanging from ceiling. Police suspect Abdul could have ended his life due to mounting debts. 

Mentally disturbed woman immolates self: In yet another case of suicide, a 48-year-old woman set herself ablaze in Muthialpet. Thulasi bhai, said to be mentally disturbed, was living alone in Egavalli Amman Koil Street. On Sunday night, Thulasi ran out of her house engulfed in flames, crying for help. Neighbours put out the fire and sent her to Stanley hospital, but she was declared brought dead.
