Lady Cadet Neeta recalled the dedication with which her husband spoke about the profession. “My husband and I fell in love while talking about the army. I was second on his priority list. Today, he is no more but he has ensured that I found the ‘olive green’ family,” said the mother of a five-year-old boy.

“I remember that on April 10, my husband, who was in the operation area had called, wishing me for our anniversary the next day, since he wasn’t sure he could call me on that day. On April 13, I got the news that he got shot but was alive. Unfortunately, we lost him,” said the lady cadet, who was married to Major Deswal for ten years.

For the arts graduate who was working in the hospitality sector, life changed after her husband’s death.

Clearing the Services Selection Board interviews, she joined the OTA Chennai last year.

“If I would have stayed at home, it would have been difficult, struggling with emotions. Here, we are busy round-the-clock with training, from which I’ve learnt a lot,” she concluded.
