AR cop’s suicide may be due to work, family issues
The Armed Reserve personnel who committed suicide on Sunday had resumed work 10 days ago after visiting his hometown. His death came as a shock to his parents.

Arunraj’s father Malairajan, a Congressman, said nothing was unusual during his conversation with his son at 7.30 pm on Saturday night. Arunraj is said to have told him about his work pressure and informed of about his request to be transferred near his hometown. Arunraj is Malairajan’s third son. His mother’s name is Ponnazhagu. A BCom graduate, Arunraj joined the police force in 2013 under the sports quota. He is said to have become devoutly religious ever since he joined the duty and in 2015, he suddenly stopped coming to work and was later traced to Tiruvannamalai and was found dressed in saffron robe like a spiritual seeker.
Moreover, those who go on leave without proper intimation in the police department are made to do additional work as punishment, sources said, adding that unable to handle work pressure might have led him to end his life.
However, others said he was not inclined towards marriage despite family pressure. Police are also probing into whether he took the extreme step over personal issues. Police said they did not recover any suicide note.
