Amutha P, who frequents the bus stand almost thrice a week, says that she is glad she can sit while waiting for her bus to Tiruvanmiyur. “I don’t know for how many days this seating area has been broken, but I am used to it. I just ensure that I don’t move too close to the part that is broken. And do we have a choice?”
The bus shed near Dr MGR Janaki College of Arts and Science for Women, on Durgabai Deshmukh Road, receives a large number of passengers during college hours.
Its proximity to the market, Besant Nagar, Mylapore and the frequency of buses make it one of the busiest bus stops in the city.
Sankaran, another commuter, blames passengers for it. “I know authorities have to act on it, but I wonder how it broke in the first place,” he said.
Officials of the Greater Chennai Corporation were unavailable for comment.
