The objective of RUSA is to improve overall quality of educational institutions across the state by ensuring conformity to prescribed norms and standards and adopt accreditation as mandatory.
University sources said that initiatives of State and Central Government policies towards the installation of solar systems to meet the 6% of the electricity consumption pave way for large promotion of solar energy utilisation in various organisations.
The Anna university main campus covers an area of over 180 acres and has more than 8,500 students including UG, PG students and research scholars doing their respective courses. Of the total students, roughly 3,500 students are lodged in college hostels.
All the hostels in the campus are equipped with their own mess, where the huge amount of kitchen waste produced on a daily basis, can be utilised for better purposes especially for producing sustainable energy. At present, the day to day electricity consumption of the campus is met out by conventional energy sources.
