CMDA officials sealed the buildings of Hyderabad Biriyani, K C Das and Cinebels in Nungambakkam under the provisions of Section 56 and 57 of Tamil Nadu Town and Country Planning Act, 1971.
“The restaurant on the ground floor extended the shop till the site boundary at both the front and rear setback space,” said an official. Owners of K C Das and Cinebels had illegally added a mezzanine floor with internal staircase. They had also constructed a room on the terrace, added the official.
“Since these portions of the building were in deviation of the approval obtained, we sent a notice to seal the buildings and demolish them on February 1. However, the owners of the buildings did not comply with the notice issued by us,” the official noted.
Following this, the officials sealed these buildings on Wednesday morning. Cracking the whip on illegal buildings, the CMDA officials said that they were continuously investigating building violations.
“In March, we sealed four buildings for violating norms. We have already formed a separate team to monitor and initiate action against the buildings that flout norms,” said an official.
