Police said that they have arrested eight people, who were buying fish from him and selling it in different neighbourhoods in connection with the murder, on Monday evening. The deceased was identified as Srinivasan (42) of Kasimedu, a wholesale fish merchant in south Chennai.

A few months ago, Srinivasan along with his wife and son, shifted from Kasimedu and was staying in a rented house in Gandhi Nagar near Medavakkam.

Srinivasan was providing fresh fish directly brought from Kasimedu at a lower price than other sellers. He used to sell fish for the same rate to customers and other fish vendors, which angered the latter. This led to quarrel between him and his vendors on regular basis.

Police said that few days go Srinivasan and other vendors had a fight in which Srinivasan grabbed mobile phones from two of them and broke it. Srinivasan used to go for the morning walks everday and then to Kasimedu, on his vehicle, to bring fish.

On Monday morning, Srinivasan went for his morning walk and when he was near the Quaide Milleth College in Medavakkam, a group of men attacked him with sickles and machetes. He suffered several injuries on his neck and shoulder.

As Sreenivasan did not return, his wife searched for him when a few neighbours informed her about the incident. Later, Pallikaranai police were informed about the incident. They visited the spot and sent the body for an autopsy to Chromepet GH.
