CrPC 102 deals with power of any police officer to seize any property which may be alleged or suspected to have been stolen, or which may be found under circumstances which create suspicion of the commission of any offence.
A copy of the FIR registered on Monday has been sent to the city police commissionerate for taking necessary departmental action, including suspension.
On Friday night a DVAC team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Lavakumar seized 2.5 lakh cash from Kamil Basha’s office while another Rs 2.58 lakh was seized from a contractor named Selvam, a resident of Kodungaiyur, who was present in the office of assistant commissioner.
Following the seizure of the cash, sleuths interrogated Selvam and the AC separately. Though the officer claimed that the money was the advance amount for a sale of his land, Selvam told some other story. The raid was held Based on a tip-off about a deal to pay the Assistant Commissioner about Rs 8 lakh to settle a land dispute.
Kamil Basha had earlier landed in trouble when he allegedly delayed registering a case against a doctor from whose residence in Tiruvannamalai a 15-year-old girl from Koyambedu was rescued last year.
