Government docs stress on kidney care at awareness meet
As part of the weekly awareness programme at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH), doctors from the Nephrology Department spoke to the attendants at the waiting areas at the hospital to make them aware about their kidney health.

Themed ‘protect your kidneys’, the drive witnessed doctors stressing on the need for proper diabetes treatment and to maintain proper blood sugar level. Those with blood pressure and blood sugar problems were urged to get their kidneys checked on a regular basis.
While many depend on pain killers for the smallest of pains, the doctors urged those present to avoid constant consumption of painkillers – unless it is an unavoidable situation – as it affects the kidneys. Refrain from consuming it without a prescription, they told the people.
Highlighting the relationship between obesity and kidney diseases, the doctors stressed on the need to avoid smoking, follow a healthy diet and regular exercise.
Persons who have symptoms including blood stained urine or discomfort while urinating, constant urination, swelling in the hands, legs and the face, a feeling of fatigue, blockage in the urinary tube must get their kidneys checked, especially if they have a family history of kidney diseases, the doctors urged.
