According to the police, the victim Saravanan and two of his friends were returning home around 11.30 pm on Monday night when the incident occurred.
They were crossing Arcot Road near Nilgris when a speeding car halted close to them, almost running them down. This led to an argument between Saravanan, his friends and the duo inside the car.
As Saravanan and his friends walked over to the others side of the road, the driver, identified as Dinesh (25) took a U-turn and sped back towards the trio. While others managed to escape, Saravanan was hit by the car. He was thrown off to a distance and suffered serious injuries on his head. Dinesh and his accomplice Sajith (20) fled the spot while Saravanan’s friends rushed him to SRMC Hospital in Porur where his condition is said to be critical even on Thursday.
The friends then registered a complaint with the Valasaravakkam police who traced the accused with their car’s registration number.
Police said that Dinesh and Sajith were photography professionals and the car belonged to their kin. Both were booked under Section 307 (attempted murder) of IPC and remanded in judicial custody.
