Traffic on the road, which connects Nungambakkam with Poonamallee high road, was made one-way during peak hours to restrict the vehicle movement.
While vehicles coming from Anna Nagar cannot use the Harrington road to reach Nungambakkam from 8.30 am to 10.30 am, motorists from the other side cannot use the road during the evening hours.
However, residents feel the traffic is not so heavy during peak hours. Stating the restriction can be removed, Syed Kasim said such a measure would be helpful for him and other residents.
“In the evening hours, if we want to go towards Nungambakkam or Egmore, places that are just one or two kilometres away, we have to cross the subway and reach EVR Salai and then come around upto Ega theatre to take a right turn,” he said.
Even worse for some, whose residences are close to the subway, is that they cannot take their vehicles out, due to the pileup of motorists.
When contacted, Kilpauk assistant commissioner (traffic) Natarajan said, “Traffic flow on the stretch was studied recently. We have decided to maintain the status quo for now.”
