Simulation lab for kids worth Rs 3.6 crore opens

A simulation lab for emergency was inaugurated at the Institute of Child Health on Thursday by State Health Minister C Vijayabaskar.

The lab for emergency has been built at a cost Rs 3.6 crore. The upcoming facilities here also include a modular cardiac surgery theatre with cath lab for newborns at a cost of Rs 20.75 crore and a lab for inherited disorders and molecular diagnosis lab at the cost of Rs 10.07 crore. On Thursday, the Minister also joined the first-year anniversary celebrations of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) out-patient department at the hospital. Vijayabaskar said, “As many as 5.77 lakh children have been treated at the OPD in the last one year.” 

JICA has also been working with 11 medical colleges and 10 district headquarters hospital in the state by offering infrastructure, equipment and human resources. As part of the celebrations, the Minister also distributed ORS, buttermilk and drinking water to visitors at the hospital. 

The event was presided over by Dr J Radhakrishnan, State Health Secretary, Uma Maheswari, project director, Kojiro Uchiyama, Consul General of Japan in Chennai, Takema Sakamoto, chief representative of JICA India, Dr A Edwin Joe, Director of Medical Education, Dr Arasar Seeralar, Director-ICH.
