Upgrade state syllabus on a par with CBSE: Petition
Claiming that the present educational policy in the state was a failure, a public interest litigation has been moved in the Madras High Court seeking to upgrade the syllabus offered by the State Education Board on a par with that of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT).

This would enable Tamil Nadu students compete with students of other states in entrance examinations such as NEET, the petition said.
A summer vacation division bench comprising Justice V Bharathidasan and Justice N Seshasayee, before whom the public interest litigation by A K Martin, an advocate, came up, ordered notice to the State Ministry of Education and posted the matter for further hearing after the vacation. The petitioner had submitted that
though the students of Tamil Nadu get good marks as 1,190 for 1,200 in the Class 12 board exams, they are unable to do well in examinations conducted for admission to medical courses such as NEET since the questions are prepared by the CBSE from NCERT books. While states like Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra have revised and modified their respective state board syllabus on a par with CBSE, Tamil Nadu has failed to do so. Due to this, even average students from other states are successful in their attempts at entrance exams compared to brilliant students from Tamil Nadu, the petitioner said and added that his representation in this regard received a negative reply from the State Education Department that it is a state policy and there is no need for anyone’s advice in this regard.
The petitioner has sought the court to direct the government of Tamil Nadu to consider his representation and revise the current State Education syllabus in a manner that is either better or is at least on a par with the CBSE school syllabus.
