On Monday night, he went to sleep as usual. The next morning, his wife Sumithra complained that he was found unconscious. He was rushed to hospital but was declared brought dead. Later, his body was sent to Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The doctors there raised suspicion about his death as there were strangulation marks around his neck.
So a case of suspicious death was registered and police began investigation. On suspicion, police interrogated Gopi’s wife Sumithra, during which she reportedly admitted to have murdered her husband with the help of her lover Kalaiselvan.
It is said that Kalaiselvan and Sumithra have been in relationship for the past six months, about which Gopi came to know recently. Fearing reaction from Gopi, Sumithra and Kalaiselvan planned to murder him and strangulated him to death. Police have secured Sumithra for further investigation and have launched a hunt for Kalaiselvan.
Gopi and Sumithra were married three years ago and the couple has two children are 1.5 years and 8 months. Gopi’s mother also stayed with the couple, said police.
