It may be recalled that when the DVAC sleuths carried out a surprise check nearly a month ago at the regional transport office in Sriperumbudur they had recovered unclaimed cash Rs 1.87 lakh, found on the floor and dustbins.

A team of 12 Vigilance officers led by a deputy superintendent of police caught the staff by surprise and the staff, in an attempt to conceal the money, dumped it in bins. So it became difficult for the sleuths to pinpoint the suspects at that time.

But later, the DVAC registered a case against the seven government staff and three private individuals.

The raid was carried out by the sleuths based on complaints from the public about the staff demanding bribe at the office.
