Ravichandran alias Manga Ravi, a history-sheeter from Tondiarpet in city, is a suspect in a murder case registered last year, and was also detained under Goondas Act. Ravi’s wife had moved the court against taking her husband under preventive detention, which was declined. However, when the court order reached the jail, it was handed down from top to the lower rung officers with an instruction: ‘take action accordingly’.
Sources said a warden reportedly misunderstood a court order, which led to his release on April 28. This triggered a flutter, and police officers launched a hunt to track Ravi. Meanwhile, the warden believed to be responsible for the faux pas was placed under suspension, sources added.
Bringing it to an end, Ravichandran returned to the prison and surrendered before the jail officers on Tuesday, sources said.
