Police arrested Thameen Hussain, a former business partner of the victim for the abduction.

Police noted that as the victim, S Ibrahim, had reached the Metro Station after landing at the airport around 3.30 pm on Friday, when his erstwhile business partners reached the spot and forced him into a car.

“The men forced him to the car saying they will drop him in his house, but instead of turning on to GST Road, the car turned right and the men started threatening him of dire consequence if he started shouting. They took him to a room in Tambaram and was asked to tell his father that he needs Rs 9 lakh to settle a business dispute. But instead he informed his father that he had been abducted for a ransom of Rs 9 lakh,” the police said.

On Friday midnight his father got a direct call from Thameem Hussain, who demanded Rs 9 lakh and categorically informed him that Ibrahim will remain hostage till the cash was delivered, police said.

Shahul Hameed, Ibrahim’s father, convinced the abductors that he would pay Rs 1 lakh initially for exchange of his son and rest of the amount could be settled later. He then informed a senior police official about the incident and a special team was formed to nab the suspect. While Hameed was asked to play along with the abductors, the police decided to spread all around the Airport Metro station, where the cash-hostage exchange was scheduled on Saturday afternoon.

According to the plan, Hameed, with his second son, reached the spot with Rs 1 lakh. Ibrahim was brought to the scene in a car and Thameem took him to Hamid who was waiting at the Metro station. Police who were already waiting overpowered Thameem. But his associates escaped with the car.

Thameem Hasan told the police that they abducted their former business partner because he owed them Rs 9 lakh. Police arrested him under various IPC sections including for abduction and illegal detention.
