The deceased was identified as V Vimal, a resident of Ezhil Nagar who worked as a painter. “On Sunday night, Vimal was found dead with stab injures, near the bushes in the same locality,” said a police source. Following the murder, the police arrested six people including a 17-year-old boy.

After an investigation, police found that Vimal was involved in a fight with one Logesh of the same locality on Sunday morning during a function in the neighbourhood.

Later, Logesh, his brother and a few other friends planned to murder Vimal.

They called him in the night and invited him over to have a drinking session with them. When he came to the spot as asked by the gang, they hacked him to death and threw the body near the bushes.

Police identified the arrested M Aakash, M Logesh, M Praveen Antony, M Sonas Mathew, P Pushparaj. They all are in the age group of 21-22. The 17-year-old boy arrested in the case has been sent to a government observation home, while others were remanded in judicial custody, said sources.

Two arrested for teen’s murder

Two men were arrested on Monday in connection with the murder of an 18-year-old youth in Chengalpattu, allegedly over sharing the money gotten through illegal sand mining.

According to police, U Naveen Kumar, who was working as a part-time cook and a painter, was found murdered with multiple injuries and his legs and hands tied on Sunday.

Police arrested Praveen Kumar and Abhishek, who are believed to be the friends of the deceased, for the crime.

Police suspect that the two, along with the deceased, were indulging in illegal sand smuggling and he could have been killed in a fight over sharing the profit. Naveen, who went to meet his friends on Saturday night, did not return.

It was a few shepherds who had gone to Thattanmalai hills on Sunday afternoon for grazing their cattle who found his dead body in a pool of blood and informed the police.

After arresting the two, however, police noted that neither Naveen nor the two suspects have any past crime records.
