Regional Meteorological Director S Balachandran said, “During monsoon season in Kerala, there is usually a higher temperature here at this time of the year.”

According to the city’s weather bloggers, Tuesday was the hottest day in 2018. The dry north westerly winds were prominent on Tuesday morning, leading to a spike in temperatures.

“There was no presence of easterlies that has been keeping the temperature in check for the last 25 days. As monsoon set in Kerala, the westerlies were prominent, resulting in a spike in temperature.

The scenario will be the same for the next two or three days,” said weather blogger Pradeep John.  He added that last year, Nungamba kkam weather station witnessed temperatures crossing 40 degrees Celsius for 10 days.
