Minister inspects vet college

Minister of Animal Husbandry, Government of Tamil Nadu, Udumalai K Radhakrishnan visited various units of the Madras Veterinary College Teaching Hospital on May 28.

The minister looked into various departments, viz, surgery, gynaecology, orthopaedics and ophthalmology, critical care unit, injection ward, and radiology unit. Dr S Balasubramanian, Director of Clinics and Dr.K.Kumanan, Dean, Madras Veterinary College accompanied him and explained how the units functioned.

Radhakrishnan also visited the Small Animal In-patient Unit and the blood bank. He inspected the facilities and services rendered by the units. The minister advised that veterinary college should be further modernized with state of the art facilities in the hospital to be at par with the developed countries.

He suggested refurbishing of the surrounding roads of the hospital and provide trolleys to help proper transportation of sick animals. 

Radhakrishnan also suggested that university officers should help, to the best of their abilities, to submit suitable proposals for modernization and facelift of the hospital units to project the facilities offered to both the pet and large animals. 

The minister also visited the Madras Veterinary College hostel campus and appreciated the modernization of various student amenities provided. Radhakrishnan also suggested that buildings should be renovated periodically for better upkeep of the campus.
