Depressed over long commute, student commits suicide
Reportedly angry that his father did not let him get a transfer from a far off college where he was studying to an institution nearby, an 18-year-old committed suicide in city.

V Jaisairam (18) of Triplicane, a first-year biochemistry student at Mohammed Sathak College on Rajiv Gandhi Salai, asked his father Vijayakumar to admit him in New College, Royapettah, in second year, as he was finding it difficult to travel the long distance to the college daily.
However, not convinced by the reason, Vijayakumar reportedly scolded his son and insisted that he continued in the same college. Dejected over this, Jaisairam hanged self in his room. He was taken to Government Royapettah Hospital, where the doctors declared him dead.
Triplicane police have registered a case.
In yet another suicide, a 42-year-old man killed himself at his house in Avadi. G Aasai Thambi was depressed after he lost his job three months ago. On Friday night, he hanged at his house at Kiruba Nagar. His wife alerted Avadi Tank police, who recovered the body and sent it for autopsy. A case has been registered.
Similarly, a 23-year-old unemployed youth consumed poison and died in Thirumullaivoyal. Passer-by, who spotted Ramalingam lying unconscious with froth coming out of his mouth at a park on Friday, alerted 108 ambulance service. But they declared him dead. Thirumallaivoyal police have registered a case and are investigating.
