1 year on, amnesty scheme for plots yet to pick up

According to sources, the two agencies have so far received only 3,19,558 lakh applications out of 17.25 lakh cases in all. However, the CMDA officials, who kept extending the deadline, are hopeful of reviving the programme soon.

Sources said the government agencies have not received even a single application from May 3 to May 31 when the CMDA extended the deadline by six months. The data available with the CMDA and DTCP showed 35,259 and 2,84,329 online applications respectively.

“It is true that we have not obtained even a single online application in May. However, plot owners might have deferred their plans due to vacation,” said a senior official. The official also admitted that they stopped creating awareness among the plot and layout owners in May due to the sweltering heat.

Meanwhile, builders have demanded the government to accelerate the campaign. S Ramaprabhu, vice-chairman, Southern Centre of the Builders Association of India, told DT Next, “It is highly regrettable that even after one year, the process of plot regularisation scheme is moving at a snail’s pace. The officials should find a lasting solution to execute the scheme by formulating various mechanisms.” He suggested that intensive campaigns in this respect should be conducted across the State.

When contacted, a senior official, on conditions of anonymity, said, “We are taking steps to spread awareness regarding the scheme and we will start another public campaign soon. We are hopeful that the number of online applications will go beyond 10 lakh in the next five months.”
