V Ananth (58), a resident of South Canal Bank road and senior manager in Hyundai, Sriperumpudur, filed a complaint at the Foreshore Estate police station that the gold and cash was missing from his house and raised suspicion on their housemaid Devi.

Police registered a case and interrogated Devi, but she refuted the allegations and asked the police to raid her house and intensify investigation to establish her role in the incident. So, police are probing the case in other angles.

Ananth's wife, Shanthi, works as a teacher at a private school and the couple does not have children. Ananth's 81-year-old mother, Jayalakshmi, stays with them. The complainant claims that no relative visited the house in the recent past.

The couple said that they kept the jewels in the cupboard in February and searched for it only on Saturday to attend a wedding. Police are investigating to find out whether they misplaced the jewels or if the complaint itself is fake.
