Police have identified the deceased as P Dakshinamoorthy, a resident of Kumaran Nagar in Vadapalani. He worked in a software company located on Rajiv Gandhi Salai (OMR). According to sources, the incident happened on Saturday night, when he was returning home alone after visiting Kalahasti.
When Dakshinamoorthy reached Retteri near Kolathur, he noticed a diversion board and seems to have lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a turn. The car ran amok and hit the median, after which the car suddenly caught fire in the front portion. As the car got auto-locked, Dakshinamoorthy couldn’t escape from the car and was engulfed in the fire, added the police. Shocked motorists alerted Fire and Rescue Services Department personnel over the emergency helpline and a fire tender from Ambattur station was rushed to the spot immediately. While the fire was put out in sometime, Dakshinamoorthy was charred to death.
Since all the documents in the car were burnt, Madhavaram traffic investigation police, who registered an accident case in this regard, identified the victim as Dakshinamoorthy with the help of vehicle’s registration number.
His body was sent to Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) Hospital for post-mortem examination. Dakshinamoorthy is survived by his wife Sindhu Bhairvi and
daughter.
