While they were playing outside the house around 6 pm, the 10 ft long and 6.5 ft tall compound wall collapsed trapping the two under the debris.

Neighbours removed the debris immediately, but Muskan had already died of injuries by then. Dhayan, with grievous injuries, was rushed to Kilpauk Medical College. But he was declared brought dead.

Police said that the family has been living in the locality for more than 30 years and the fathers of the victims, Firoz and Ansar, are brothers who sold meat in Aminjikarai and Mehta Nagar respectively. While Muskan is Feroz’s one of twin daughters, Dhayan is the second son of Ansar.

Police said that the compound wall had been damaged as a neem tree had grown close to the wall and weakened the foundation. On information, Aminjikarai police registered a case and further investigation is on.

As police did not see anything suspicious behind the incident, they allowed them to cremate the bodies without a post-mortem examination.
