What is the 21-day challenge?
It is said that anything we do continuously for 21 days becomes a habit. In line with this belief and with the main focus on reducing plastics use, the idea is to create awareness on the environment. Pick up a habit, something simple that will enable you to help beat plastics pollution. The task on the reverse of the cards available in the box at the stall would be the new practice for the participants for the next 21 days.
What led to the idea?
Every year, Hand In Hand takes up an initiative for World Environment Day. We wanted to sensitise people towards the cause. Airport is a place visited by all kinds of people — some are leaders and run their own firms. These could influence their employers and the message can reach a large section. These habits could be anything – like switching from ballpoint to fountain pens. Awareness can create positive action.
What has been the response so far?
We have as many as 160-170 people who have responded to this challenge.
What is driving force?
We are a group of professionals who believe we have to be responsible citizens. As we have a huge population in this country, a private-public-partnership can help find meaningful solutions. The main focus is providing entrepreneurship which can lead to sustainability. Following this, we can look at health, sanitation and education.
