He was speaking after inaugurating a workshop for police personnel on cyber security threats and challenges on Saturday.
“Mostly, it is the same set of crimes such as cheating through matrimonial websites, online job racket, phishing emails and lottery messages exploiting the lack of awareness among people,” he said. The Commissioner also launched a guide on how to be safe in the cyber space, apart from pamphlets and posters.
The one-day workshop was jointly organised by Information Security Education and Awareness (ISEA), Hyderabad, and the cyber crime wing of Central Crime Branch. As many as 200 police personnel participated in the workshop in which they were apprised of the common online-based cheating methods and how to deal with it. IL Narasimha Rao, project manager of ISEA, said that all smart devices were prone to hacking and that it was the individual’s responsibility not to fall victim to fraudsters.
Kamakoti, professor, IIT-Madras, said that the cause of major cyber attacks were due to leak of personal data.
