The case is related to a Facebook post containing derogatory references to women journalists and the media by the actor turned politician.

The FIR was registered against him under various sections of the IPC, including insult intended to provoke breach of peace, gesture and words intended to insult the modesty of a woman and under provisions of Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Women Harassment Act. In his plea, he had claimed that he was not the author of the post and was not aware of its contents when he forwarded it.

The Facebook post makes insinuations against the media and women journalists in light of the “patgate” row involving Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit. It also had some caustic references to the woman scribe whose cheek the governor patted.
