CCTV, vehicle number help cops nab Iranian robbers

A day after a special team of city police arrested an Iranian duo them at Kurnool with the help of Andhra Pradesh police, officers on Wednesday said that a coordinated effort and identifying the suspects using CCTV footage helped them track their movement towards Andhra Pradesh and secure them.

One of the vicitms, Jaya told police the registration number of the two-wheeler, it became easy for police to trace the bike, which was found abandoned at Madhavaram. Police said the Iranian gang stole the bike after reaching the city from Maharashtra and used it for robberies.

After carrying out a series of chain snatching incidents, they abandoned the bike and escaped in a car with Andhra Pradesh registration number. A special team led by Joint Commissioner (North) Prem Anand Sinha chased them and alerted Andhra Pradesh police to tighten vigilance at Kurnool check post. It worked, as AP police managed to intercept the vehicle and secure the accused.

They were identified Syed Abbas, Nawab Ali and Ambadas. Iranians settled in Maharashtra, they are said to be behind 12 chain snatching incidents reported last month in which over 100 sovereigns were robbed by them. Jewels and a car have been seized from them and a hunt has been launched for two more persons.
