CD Mani, aides remanded in custody
Notorious gangster CD Mani, who was produced before the Alandur Court with a broken leg, and his six associates, were remanded in judicial custody till July 3. The gangster told the court that his leg suffered injury when he tried to escape from the police when they surrounded his hideout on Saturday night.

Mani is facing as many as 28 cases, including eight murder cases, in various police stations in south Chennai. Others remanded were identified as Vinod, Sivakumar, Sori Suresh, Uri alias Uriuran, Ilango and Madhavan. They were arrested on Sunday.
When he was arrested, police seized a gun, a few knives from him and his associates. A bike and a four-wheeler were also seized from them. The gangster has been booked under the Goondas Act four times - in 2001, 2009, 2002 and 2015.
P Manikandan of Thomas Road in Teynampet became CD Mani after he started selling pirated DVDs in Teynampet.
