HM, Christian group clash on Marina beach

Tension prevailed on the Marina beach following a quarrel between Hindu Munnani cadre and Pentecostal Christians near the Labour statue on Sunday evening. Hindu Munnani cadre also attacked the policemen, who attempted to mediate between the two groups, in which a sub-inspector was injured, said police sources.

According to the police, Hindu Munnani cadre opposed the distribution of pamphlets by the Christian group near the Labour statue. This led to an argument between the two groups.

Following this, Hindu Munnani members approached the Anna Square police station and police personnel held talks with both groups. During the talks, Hindu Munnani members also verbally abused the policemen and also attacked them, in which sub-inspector Rajapandi was injured.

Later, Triplicane Assistant Commissioner held talks with both religious groups and asked them to submit a written petition after which they dispersed. The injured SI has been admitted to a hospital, said sources.
