How did you end up as a CEO at such a young age?
Having been raised in a sporting family, I’ve always had a keen interest in managing a professional team. I’m in my final year of law college, so I was also piqued by the legalities involved in the process. My dad was a cricketer and my brother, Rohit Damodaren, is the captain of the Siechem Madurai Panthers. So when the opportunity presented itself, I was excited to take it up.
What about balancing your law career?
I have always been able to juggle multiple roles – just sometime back, I was playing frisbee for my club and participating in mock court events simultaneously. I had a break now during which I was able to focus on setting up the team. Now I am in my final year of college, so that gives me time to work with the players actively.
How has your sporting background helped you?
It’s given me a lot of mental strength, and made me realise how important sport is — also as a means of income. For instance, in cricket, several young boys are the breadwinners for their family – and I feel responsible for them.
What is your goal for the future?
‘Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all’ – this is a quote by Helen Keller that has always been close to my heart. I really want to get other sports out in the spotlight, and help players from the streams gain recognition. Personally, I also want to practise litigation as a lawyer and then later work for the United Nations to make a difference.
