While these conflicts need to be checked, it has been seen that miscommunication between the doctors and the kin has been the main reason for such conflicts.
The MoU that was signed between the Dr MGR University with the Australasian College of Health Service Management, hopes to check this problem through its skill development training that they are taking up in three phases.
“It covers communication skills, which we feel is very important in a time like this when we are seeing a lot of conflicts in the hospital environment,” said Dr Srinivas, professor of epidemiology department at MGR University.
“It is not that the doctor or the patient’s kin is wrong, however, miscommunication tends to create problems. We are not formally taught how to communicate deaths to the kin, which is in itself an art,” he added.
Dr Srinivas also said that once doctors and health managers improve their leadership skills, it would avoid a lot of problems in the community. “It is important for doctors to know how to interact with the community,” he said.
