Ten Engineering aspirants top state merit list

Keerthana Ravi from Coimbatore secured first rank while a Madurai student emerged second in the list. Releasing the merit list, Higher Education Minister K P Anbalagan said that during the online counselling process, the applicants would be grouped based on merit list into multiple rounds. 

Stating that each group of applicants would be allowed into the counselling system round wise, the minister said the seats are then allotted tentatively based on the merit list and order of preference of choices provided by the applicant. He said the applicant can see the tentative allotment details in their respective login itself on the next day. 

“Applicants are required to confirm the tentative allotment by exercising any of the allotment options provided to them within two days,” he said adding that the applicants who could not be allotted based on merit list and choice, might opt to participate in the next round. Anbalagan said that after receiving the allotment options from the students of a round the final allotment will be done. 

“The student facilitation centre across Tamil Nadu will provide support to the students for online counselling,” he said. According to the minister, SMS and e-mail alerts to the applicants in their registered ids will be sent during each stage of counselling. 

The minister said since medical counselling will be held from June 1 to July 10, engineering counselling will be done after that. 

“The government also approached Supreme Court seeking order to do counselling even after July 31,” he added. Anbalagan said that this year, 509 colleges would be participating in the counselling. When asked about the fees structure, the minister said that the fees would be around Rs 55,000 for recognised colleges. 

“For management quota, the fees will be approximately  Rs 87,000,” he said.
