The Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) system linked to the EVMs ran into trouble at polling stations with large number of voters, as the paper roll attached to the VVPAT machine cannot print more than 1,500 slips.

It required replenishing the roll in the midst of polling, which was found too arduous and time-consuming a process. Following this, the Election Commission had decided to limit the number of voters per polling station to 1,400.

Based on the direction from the EC, the Greater Chennai Corporation took up the work to identify such polling stations within its limits.

A statement from the corporation said the identification of booths exceeding the number of voters has been completed, adding that the draft list will be released on July 2. The public may check the notice boards at the Electoral Registration Offices (ERO) located in Tondiarpet, Royapuram, Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, Anna Nagar, Teynampet, Kodambakkam and Adyar zones on Monday, and can send in their suggestions to the Electoral Registration Offices till July 9, the statement added.
