Salem man threatens DGP, arrested

A 35-year-old man who ‘issued’ a threat to the director- general of police (DGP) of the state TK Rajendran over phone to the master control room was secured from Kichipalayam in Salem on Friday.

Police claimed that the master police control room, functioning at the ol office of the Chennai city police commissioner received the call aroun 4.30 am on Friday. 

The man was frustrated over the fact that the police were not giving permission to hold protests against the Salem–Chennai expressway project.

The man, identified as Vijaya Babu, reportedly issued death threat to the DGP and asked the control room to tell the police chief to give permission for protests against the project. City police sources said that Vijaya Babu, who helps his father in business, seemed to be mentally unstable and he was immediately secured as he made the call from his mobile phone.
