Law student held for attacking policeman

A 23-year-old man was arrested by the police for allegedly assaulting an armed reserve personnel during an argument after their bikes collided on Saturday night in Kilpauk.

The arrested man was identified as S Saravanan, a law student, of Ramalingapuram. Police said that on Saturday night policeman K Muthukumaran was returning home after his security duty for Vice President’s visit to the city when the incident took place. Muthukumaran fell on the road after another bike collided with his vehicle.

He suffered minor injuries and when he questioned the careless driving of the other motorist, he was attacked. The AR constable was wearing a helmet, police said.

Though the assailant escaped immediately after the incident the police traced Saravanan and arrested him on charges of attempt to murder, voluntarily causing hurt and rash driving. Recently, Grade I police constable was attacked by the cadre of a political party when he tried to mediate in a dispute between a house owner and a tenant.
