According to the police, R Balasubramaniyam (40) of LIC Colony, Anna Nagar West lodged a complaint against one M Rajesh who had taken a loan of Rs 2 lakh after pledging his SUV in May. A month later, on the night of June 27, Rajesh repaid Rs 2.1 lakh with interest and took his vehicle.

The next day, Balasubramaniyan checked the notes and realised that 98 notes of Rs 2,000 with the face value of Rs 1.96 lakh were counterfeit. When Balasubramaniyan contacted Rajesh, he promised to collect back the fake notes and replace it with original soon. But, Rajesh didn’t go back to the financier. Instead, he lodged a complaint with the Thirunidhraoor police. In his complaint, he stated that the financier is threatening him saying that he had given counterfeit notes.

Meanwhile, Balasubramaniyan also lodged a complaint with the Thirumangalam police station on Monday and a case has been registered against Rajesh under IPC sections 489 B & C (making or possessing instruments or materials for forging or counterfeiting currency notes or bank notes).

Police said the currency looked more like colour photocopies of Rs 2,000 notes. Police, however, added that the source of the counterfeit currency will be known only after the suspect is secured.
